I just wanted to tell you how excited I am to almost be able to hold the book in my hands. This large endeavour started back in June and is finally in the home stretch and almost complete. After countless number of hours, I would estimate over 150, it is with great pride that I can tell you that the book is absolutely beautiful!
On Monday I went to Friesen’s Printers (www.friesens.com) in Altona, Manitoba, to go for a press check. (Both my Dad and Uncle were printers for over 40 years…so it was great being in a printing plant again and the smells of the inks and paper brought back some great childhood memories…yeah pretty weird, I know. (But it’s the perfect example of how a certain smell can trigger memories of the past). I was in the plant for about 5 hours to see all the “first side” of the large print sheets of the book. Each sheet has 12 “spreads” on it, so 24 pages on one side. It was pretty exciting as the printer would pull a sheet off the press for me to check. I took out my loupe (magnifier) to check that the registration is in line. Everything looked perfect and Glenn, the printer, is an expert in his trade.
The total number of pages in the book is 144. They are designed to compliment all types of images from commercial photography to weddings and everything in between. The result is a classy, artistic, and cohesive book from cover to cover.
You can imagine how big of a task it was to make sure that over 400 images worked well with each other across each spread, that each spread had colour and theme harmony, and that there was a mixture of commercial, general and portrait images mixed randomly throughout.
The cover of the book is a black linen look finish with a matte silver embossing. The dust jacket is a matte black with the title and PPOC name and logo in a high gloss white text.
I am excited about the book and I hope that you purchase one, before they are gone, to see how talented our association is and get inspired from the images on the pages for years to come. I am already looking forward to designing next year’s book with a new batch of fantastic images from the members of this great association!
The books are $69 for the first and second, and then $49 for each additional copy after that (shipping included). What a great Christmas gift it could be for your loved ones.
