Accreditation - Maternity, Susie O'Connor

Accreditation is described on the Professional Photographer's of Canada's website as: "Accreditation is the first elevation above the general membership level, and is achieved by submitting samples of the applicant’s photography to a PPOC Board of Review for Accreditation. Accreditation demonstrates that the photographer is capable of delivering above average quality photography in a chosen category. In assessing accreditation submissions, the judges will consider the following criteria: Impact, Creativity, Style, Composition, Presentation,Color Balance, Centre of Interest, Lighting, Subject Matter, Print Quality, Technique, Story Telling. A minimum of one Accreditation is required to qualify for a Craftsman Award and two accreditations are needed for a Masters Award." With the next accreditation deadline coming up quickly on September 15th, our members are working on hard on preparing portfolios for submission. Susie O'Connor from Cold Lake, AB submitted a maternity portfolio for accreditation review in June and walked away with an excellence rating on her portfolio! Congratulations Susie! PPOC Accreditation, Susie O'Connor PPOC Accreditation, Susie O'Connor "I started out as a kid working for my parents in our family run portrait studio back in 1992. As I came up in the ranks, my focus became management and marketing. I attended PPOC conferences and always took advantage of the great business and marketing seminars until I saw to Lori Nordstrom speak. From that moment, I fell in love with photographing the interplay between people. My dad, George Fraser, MPA, has been an awesome mentor, encouraging me to develop own style. PPOC Accreditation, Susie O'Connor PPOC Accreditation, Susie O'Connor I am passionate about maternity portraiture. Creating images which allow women to see beauty in their full bloom of pregnancy inspires me. I feel blessed to be able to capture these intimate moments, illuminating the sacred connection between parents and their unborn child. Receiving my accreditation in the maternity portrait category validates my skill and gives me tangible credibility. While selecting my images for accreditation I became hyper critical of my work and now have a greater awareness of light and how it shapes and enhances my portraits. PPOC Accreditation, Susie O'Connor PPOC Accreditation, Susie O'Connor PPOC Accreditation, Susie O'Connor I believe there are numerous pages in the PPOC manual on the benefits of being a member but for me it's simple and comes down to a 3 major things. Sharing ideas with PPOC members stimulates my creative juices and has given me a network of professionals that I can truly call friends. Implementing the teachings of world class photographers and business gurus from the PPOC conferences has molded our business and allowed it to grow. Being a member of the PPOC gives our current and prospective clients confidence that they are dealing with a reputable and professional portrait studio that will produce exceptional and creative photographic art.
