Introducing pet photographer, Shauna Madden of Shauna Madden Photography, Cape Breton. In her own words: I hail from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Spending time by the ocean with my dog, Isla, is where I find the most peace.

Journey the mix – This girl really did have a long journey from a kill shelter in the states. She’s now living the life with her new family in Cape Breton, NS.

I joined the PPOC in late 2019 because I wanted to learn as much about photography in the shortest amount of time possible. I started photographing dogs from the start of purchasing my first DSLR but wasn’t quite sure of my path at first. My first accreditation was in stock, received in 2021, but it wasn’t something I felt was for me.

Louie the Micro-Doodle – This in-studio image was part of my 2022 Canine Accreditation. I really enjoy shooting in the studio. I get to use the lights and various backdrops for creating those classic portrait styles.

Pet photography was what I gravitated towards and in early 2022, I received my Canine/Portrait/Dog accreditation.

An outdoor portrait of a husky mix dog
Ruby the Husky mix was taken in her mother’s backyard and was also part of my Canine Accreditation.

I’m now focusing on building a pet photography business in the Sydney, Cape Breton area, focusing on providing a service to pet owners and creating one of a kind artwork of their pet.

Yogi the GSD - I’ve always admired and loved the German Shepherd Dog. They are quite regal with their stunning looks and amazing intelligence. This guy helped earn me my Dog Accreditation.

Ruby the Frenchie – Ruby is actually my cousin’s dog – spoiled rotten, as should be. This image gave me an Accepted score in the PPOC’s National Image Competition.

Mickey the Border Collie – also known as Mickey the Adventure Dog! Border Collies are so wonderful to photograph. Their extreme intelligence, agility and looks make them one of my favourites.
